Going to the Library-How to Get a Library Card: step-by-step guide

A library card is free and takes just a few minutes to get. Watch the video, then follow along.

  1. Bring a photo ID and something with your address on it, such as a piece of mail.

  2. Walk to the front desk and say you would like to get a library card.

  3. Fill out the short form with your name, address, and phone number, or answer the questions out loud.

  4. Hand the librarian your ID so they can type your information in.

  5. The librarian prints or hands you your new card and tells you how many items you can borrow.

  6. Keep the card in your wallet or bag so you have it on your next visit.

Hi, I'm Iris! Tell me what you're looking for: a place to preview (like "Park Library" or "a dentist office"), a specific city (like "Lansing, MI" or "Petoskey, MI"), or a how-to video (like "tying shoes" or "self-checkout"), and I'll find it for you.
