How to Compose an Email

Start a new email from scratch: add the address, write a subject, type your message, and send it.

How to Compose an Email: step-by-step guide

A new email needs four parts: who it goes to, a subject, a message, and your name. Watch the video, then try one.

  1. Open your email app and tap or click the Compose or New button.

  2. Type the person's email address in the To line.

  3. Write a short subject that says what the email is about.

  4. Type your message in the big box, starting with a greeting such as Hi Sam.

  5. Add your name at the end so the person knows who wrote it.

  6. Read it once to check for missing words.

  7. Press Send.

Ask Iris

See it first. Go with confidence.

Hi, I'm Iris! Tell me what you're looking for: a place to preview (like "Park Library" or "a dentist office"), a specific city (like "Lansing, MI" or "Petoskey, MI"), or a how-to video (like "tying shoes" or "self-checkout"), and I'll find it for you.

Or browse all tours or the video library.
