How to Use a Hammock (1)

Get into a hammock safely: check the setup, sit in the middle, and swing your legs up.

How to Use a Hammock (1): step-by-step guide

Getting into a hammock is easier when you sit first. Watch the video, then try it.

  1. Check that both ends of the hammock are tied tight to sturdy trees or a stand.

  2. Push down on the middle with your hand to be sure it holds.

  3. Spread the fabric open with both hands.

  4. Sit down in the middle as if it were a chair, with your feet on the ground.

  5. Lean back slowly and lift your legs up onto the hammock one at a time.

  6. Shift until you feel balanced and settled.

Helpful tips

  • Sit in the middle, not the end. The ends tip more easily.

Hi, I'm Iris! Tell me what you're looking for: a place to preview (like "Park Library" or "a dentist office"), a specific city (like "Lansing, MI" or "Petoskey, MI"), or a how-to video (like "tying shoes" or "self-checkout"), and I'll find it for you.
