About This Location

Fort Wilkins Historic State Park at 15223 US-41 in Copper Harbor is one of Michigan's oldest and most treasured state parks, featuring a fully preserved mid-19th century U.S. Army frontier post that protected copper mining operations during the 1840s mining rush, with 19 original buildings brought to life by costumed interpreters during summer. The park also encompasses Lake Fanny Hooe, offering excellent camping, fishing, kayaking, and hiking through the boreal forests of the northern Keweenaw Peninsula, just a mile from the spectacular tip at Copper Harbor. The park's location at the northernmost point of Michigan's road system makes it a pilgrimage site for travelers completing the length of the Upper Peninsula.
