How to Iron

A free Able Eyes how-to video on How to Iron. With step-by-step guidance so you can get ready with confidence.

How to Iron: step-by-step guide

An iron gets very hot, so set up carefully before you start and always set the iron down on its heel.

  1. Set up the ironing board on a flat floor with space around it.

  2. Fill the iron with water if you plan to use steam, then plug it in.

  3. Set the heat to match the fabric: low for synthetics, higher for cotton.

  4. Wait for the ready light, then lay the garment flat on the board.

  5. Press the iron on the fabric and move it in slow, straight passes.

  6. Move the garment to reach each section: collar, sleeves, front, then back.

  7. Stand the iron on its heel, unplug it, and let it cool before storing it.

Helpful tips

  • Never leave a hot iron lying flat on fabric.
  • Check the care label before ironing.
