Tahquamenon Falls State Park at 41382 W M-123 in Paradise encompasses Michigan's most celebrated waterfall system — the Upper Tahquamenon Falls, which at 200 feet wide with a 48-foot drop is one of the largest waterfalls east of the Mississippi, its tea-colored water tinted amber by tannins from the surrounding cedar swamps — and the Lower Falls, a series of smaller cascades accessible by rowboat. The 40,000-acre park in the eastern Upper Peninsula also features old-growth northern forest, the Wild and Scenic Tahquamenon River, camping, hiking, and a unique rowboat rental system for reaching the Lower Falls' central island. The falls inspired Henry Wadsworth Longfellow's 'Song of Hiawatha' and remain one of Michigan's most iconic natural landmarks.
