Sterling State Park at 2800 State Park Rd in Monroe is Michigan's only state park on Lake Erie, offering a mile of sandy beach on the western shore of the lake, a large campground, boat launches, excellent fishing for perch, walleye, and smallmouth bass, and stunning sunrises over the open water. The park's Marsh Nature Trail winds through coastal wetlands that are important habitat for migratory birds, particularly during the spring warbler migration when Sterling hosts some of the most spectacular songbird concentrations in the Great Lakes region. Located less than 30 miles south of Detroit, Sterling State Park is a beloved outdoor escape for southeast Michigan residents.
