Ludington State Park at 8800 W M-116 north of Ludington is Michigan's most visited state park and one of the gems of the entire Midwest, encompassing 5,300 acres between the crystal-clear waters of Hamlin Lake and Lake Michigan, featuring 23 miles of hiking and biking trails through towering sand dunes, old-growth forest, and freshwater wetlands. The park offers three campgrounds with over 300 sites, multiple swimming beaches on both Hamlin Lake and Lake Michigan, canoe and kayak rentals, a boat launch, and the iconic 1.5-mile trail to the remotely situated Big Sable Point Lighthouse. The breathtaking, undeveloped Lake Michigan shoreline within the park — over five miles of pristine beach — is one of the finest wild shorelines in the Great Lakes.
