About This Location

Kitch-iti-kipi — 'The Big Spring' — at 149 County Road 455 in Manistique is Michigan's largest natural spring, located within Palms Book State Park in the eastern Upper Peninsula, where over 10,000 gallons of crystal-clear 45°F water bubble up from the limestone bedrock every minute into a perfectly transparent 40-foot-deep, 300-foot-wide pool. Visitors cross the spring on a self-propelled observation raft that allows them to watch massive rainbow trout glide over the ghostly white sandy bottom amid the constant upwelling of ancient groundwater. Kitch-iti-kipi is one of the most mesmerizing and magical natural attractions in Michigan, and 'must-see' on any Upper Peninsula itinerary.
