About This Location

For-Mar Nature Preserve & Arboretum is a 383-acre Genesee County Parks facility at 2142 N Genesee Rd in Burton, featuring seven miles of hiking trails through wetlands, meadows, Kearsley Creek, and a sugar bush maple forest first opened in 1970 after being donated by Forbes and Martha Merkley. The Level II ArbNet-accredited arboretum contains over 1,800 woody specimens representing 157 species, and highlights include a barrier-free Treehouse, Butterfly House, nature center with live animals, bee apiary, and Memorial Garden. Cross-country skiing and snowshoeing are permitted in winter, and the facility hosts educational field trips, Scout programs, and nature events year-round.
