Presque Isle Park is a 323-acre forested peninsula jutting into Lake Superior at the northern edge of Marquette, deeded to the city by Congress in 1886 after landscape architect Frederick Law Olmsted advised that its natural beauty be preserved "as little altered as may be for all time." Known locally as "the Island," the free, year-round park features sandstone cliffs, miles of hiking trails, picnic areas, a historic wood band shell, and the popular Black Rocks cliff-jumping spot.
