About This Location

The Michigan State Capitol is a National Historic Landmark at 100 N Capitol Ave in Lansing, completed in 1879 and designed by architect Elijah Myers in the American Renaissance style with a distinctive cast-iron dome rising 267 feet. The building houses the chambers of the Michigan Senate and House of Representatives as well as the offices of the Governor and other constitutional officers, and underwent a major restoration in the 1990s that restored its ornate interior murals, iron columns, and decorative glass floors. Free guided and self-guided tours are available to the public, and the Capitol serves as a symbol of Michigan's democratic heritage.
