Our Story

Our Founder Story

Able Eyes began with a simple but powerful question: What if people could explore a space before they had to physically visit it?

For founder Meegan Winters, the idea came from both professional and personal experience. As a former special education teacher and assistant principal, Meegan saw how unfamiliar environments could create anxiety and hesitation for students with autism and other disabilities. She also saw this need through her close friendship with Jessica, her college roommate and best friend, who had Muscular Dystrophy and used a power wheelchair.

After Jessica passed away in 2015, Meegan was inspired to pursue the idea she had carried for years: creating a tool that would help people with physical and invisible disabilities access more information before entering new spaces. In 2017, she left her career in education and launched Able Eyes.

Today, Able Eyes helps people Explore Before You Go through accessibility-focused virtual tours and visual tools. These experiences allow individuals, families, students, patients, travelers, and caregivers to preview spaces ahead of time, reduce uncertainty, and decide what feels right for their own needs.

At its heart, Able Eyes exists because accessibility is more than getting through the door. It is about confidence, comfort, dignity, and belonging. Our mission is to help create communities where everyone has the information they need to participate more fully.
